Gwynn Golf Classic Raises Over $60K
DAVIE, FL (Nov. 29,
2000)-Darrell Gwynn continues to make a difference.
Under the bright sunshine of the South West Florida sky, friends of NHRA Top
Fuel owner Darrell Gwynn joined forces to raise over $60,000 for the Miami
Project to Cure Paralysis and Darrell Gwynn Recovery Fund.
Over 180 golfers enjoyed a four-man scramble golf tournament, banquet dinner and
auction at the plush Grand Palms Golf & Country Club in Pembroke Pines,
Florida in an annual effort to raise money for spinal cord injured victims.
"Every year the tournament continues to grow with the help of so many
dedicated friends and family," said Gwynn. "The Miami Project is a
world class facility whose goal is to find a cure for spinal cord injuries.
Their constant dedication and desire to find a cure inspires all of us who are
faced with a life of paralysis," he added.
Gwynn, 39, a spinal cord injury patient himself, was injured during a 1980
racing accident which left him paralyzed from the chest down and forced the
amputation of his left arm from below the elbow.
In its 11th year, the Darrell Gwynn Golf Classic has raised over $400,000 to
benefit victims of spinal cord injuries.
"The Gwynn family has really been behind the efforts of the Miami Project
for many years. We are truly appreciative of their support and are fortunate to
have them as friends of the Miami Project," said Marc Buoniconti, Miami
Project Ambassador.
"This tournament could not be possible without the support of all our
friends and corporate sponsors including, RJ Reynolds, People Against Drugs, MAC
Tools, Winnebago Industries, and more," added Gwynn, "it is because of
their contributions that make this a real team effort."
