Dear Friends,
It is with mixed
emotions that I write this letter to inform you that after 19 years, the
Darrell Gwynn Golf Classic will not take place in 2009. In recent
years, it has become increasingly difficult to secure the sponsorship
dollars and golfer participation to ensure a successful tournament.
Despite this, we forged ahead with the hope that the situation would
improve. Unfortunately, with today’s economic climate, it has not.
The good news,
however, is that my work at the Darrell Gwynn Foundation continues to
flourish. What started out as a personal vision to help others, has
become a full-time endeavor that is making a difference in the lives and
plight of the disabled community here in Florida as well as the entire
country. Not only are we supporting important research in spinal cord
injury, but we are also improving the quality of life for those
afflicted with paralysis, as well as focusing our efforts towards injury
prevention in our youth.
The success of the
Foundation has allowed me to gain independence, and it has given me a
purpose that I never thought I’d have again since my accident. It is
now a full-time endeavor for me that I devote 100% of my attention to.
I will be forever
grateful to all of you that provided sponsorships, donated items,
participated and volunteered for the tournaments. Some of you have been
there since the beginning and some of you are more recent participants.
ALL of you made a difference in my life and with your support I am now
able to make a difference in the lives of others. What a gift you have
given to me and my family.
If you would
like to continue to provide support, visit our website
www.darrellgwynnfoundation.org for information on how you can make a donation and get involved. We’d
love to have you in our DGF family!
Thanks
again,
Darrell
Gwynn
